Geraldine D. “Gerry” Smith

October 25, 1929 - May 5, 2017

Age 87, of Warsaw, passed away on May 5, 2017 at the East Side Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Warsaw.

She was born October 25, 1929 in Warsaw, daughter of the late Basil and Dorothy Maloney Doody. Gerry was a graduate of the Rochester Business Institute in 1948. She spent seven years as a typist and receptionist for the Wyoming County Laboratory. She also worked for the Wyoming County Health Department and the Wyoming County Mental Health Clinic. In 1971, Gerry became supervisor of the medical records department at the Wyoming County Community Hospital; a position she retired from in 1985.

Gerry was a long time member of the Attica Golf Club and she was active in the Wednesday Night Ladies Bowling League in Warsaw for many years. She attended both St. Mary’s Church in Silver Springs and St. Michael’s Church in Warsaw. She was an avid reader and an avid Buffalo Bills fan. Gerry loved spending time with her family and took great interest and pride in her grandchildren.

Gerry was predeceased by her husband of fifty-six years, Robert “Perk” Smith who died July 29, 2011 and her son, Thomas Smith who died November 17, 2013.

Surviving are her children, James Smith of Warsaw, Jill (Eric) Barnard of Lakeville; her grandchildren, Emily Barnard, Erica Barnard and Zachary Barnard; her sister, Sylvia Hayes of Baldwinsville; her sisters-in-law, Marcia Smith of Atlanta, GA, Marina Smith of Rochester; several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call Thursday, May 11 from 4 – 7 PM at Robinson & Hackemer Funeral Home, 246 N. Main St., Warsaw. Gerry’s Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, May 12 at 11 AM at St. Isidore’s Parish, St. Mary’s church site, Silver Springs. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Silver Springs. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Warsaw Public Library, 130 N. Main St., Warsaw, NY 14569 or Stevens Memorial Library, 146 Main St., Attica, NY 14011.

So sorry to hear about Gerry's passing. She was always an up personality. I am Perk's cousin. I was formally Kathleen Muldoon. Of course I am the youngest of all the cousins on the Murphy side. My mother was Ruth Murphy Muldoon. I will not be able to make the service but will keep Gerry and family in my prayers.
