Gardner V. “Buzz” Comstock

June 27, 1935 - August 26, 2009

Captain Gardner V. Comstock, USAF (Ret.), age 74, of Liberty St., Warsaw, died August 26, 2009 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester.

He was born June 27, 1935 in Cortland, NY, son of the late Gardner and Doris Hawkins Comstock. Mr. Comstock served in the United States Air Force from 1954 – 74. He was a veteran of the Korean War and the Vietnam War. He served one tour of duty in Korea and two tours of duty in Vietnam. He also served in Europe, Africa and Asia. He retired as a logistics officer. Mr. Comstock was a member of the Wyoming County Veterans Club and was a past member of the Walter Klein Post American Legion, Warsaw, 40 & 8 Voiture 761.

He served for many years as the Veterans Service Officer for Wyoming County and helped many veterans throughout the years he served in that position. Buzz loved to spend time with his family and many friends and he was an avid hunter and fisherman. He had a passion for playing cards especially Texas Hold ‘em.

Surviving are his loving wife of 30 years, Jane Sibley Comstock, whom he married on March 17, 1979; his son, Gardner (Therese) Comstock of Warsaw; his daughter, Tina Comstock of Warsaw; his grandchildren, Justine DeLuca, Colby Weil, Renee DeLuca, Joseph Comstock, Bethany Comstock; his sister, Joyce Snyder of Warsaw; many nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late Marisa Comstock and brother of the late Elaine Snyder, Ardys Zoeller, Beverly Comstock, Jean Nugent and Illoma Irish.

There are no calling hours. A memorial service with military honors will be held Saturday at noon at the Wyoming County Veterans Club (corner W. Buffalo and Wyoming Streets), Warsaw. Entombment will be in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. Memorials may be made to the family. Arrangements are being completed by Robinson & Hackemer Funeral Home, Warsaw.
