Age 81 of Castile died January 17, 2010. He was born August 19, 1928 in Rochester son of the late Thomas and Phyllis Packard Hance.
Fred served as an Engineer in the United States Army during the Korean War and received two Bronze Service Stars. In 1956, Fred graduated from Clarkson University with a degree in Civil Engineering and was a member of Alpha Chi Rho. He was an active member and past Post Commander of the Wallace-Jeffers American Legion Post, a member of the Oakland Masonic Lodge, Castile Community Club, and a life-long member of the United Church of Christ in Castile. Fred enjoyed fishing, hunting, cribbage and time with his family.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Jane Marie Barton Hance, and his four children Thomas (Cheryl) Hance, Jonn (Camille) Hance, William (Sharon) Hance, and Ruth (William) Fiske as well as four siblings Kenneth (Joyce) Hance, Phyllis (Arthur) Oliver, Marjorie Cowie, and Verna (James) McAdam. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, Frederick, David, Jeffrey, Marcus, Erik, Levi, Olivia, Will and three great-grand children, Thomas, Travis, Dustin. He was predeceased by his sister Thelma Clarice (Edward) Mcaffery.
Memorial services will be held at 11 AM on May 15, 2010 at the United Church of Christ, corner of Main Street & Washington Street, Castile, New York. Burial will be in Grace Cemetery, Castile. Donations in his memory may be made to the Wallace-Jeffers American Legion Post in Castile, NY. Arrangements are being completed by Harmon-Watson Funeral Home, Castile.
