January 4, 1925 - January 11, 2010
Age 85, of Wyoming St., Warsaw, died on January 11, 2010. He was born in Kingston, PA. in 1925, the son of Frank and Marion G. Foster. He graduated from Kingston High School in 1942 and enlisted in the Army Air Force on his 18th birthday. He was called up in June of 1943 and after training joined the 8th Air Force, 350th Squadron, 100th Bomb Group stationed at Thorpe-Abbots Field in England. This group was known as the “Bloody Hundredth” because of the high losses they had sustained. He completed 23 missions as bombadier in the crew of a B17 Flying Fortress. He was honorably discharged in June of 1945.
He graduated from Hobart College in 1949 and in 1950 was married to Marian T. Holly. He worked for Whitehead Metals in Philadelphia and in 1951 joined Rigidized Metals in Buffalo, NY in sales. In 1958 he formed his own sales agency, Metallic Operations, Inc. in Warsaw, NY.
He was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Warsaw. He served as a vestryman or warden for 40 years. During the decades between 1951 and the present he was a member of the Silver Lake Golf club, the Sailing club, and the Tennis club at different times. He was an enthusiastic supporter of church projects and causes. He enjoyed sporting events, cards and games.
He is survived by his wife, Marian H. of Warsaw; his children F. Bradley (Sheila) Foster of Richmond, VA, Wendy F. (Philip) Clay of Geneseo, Barbara F. (Dennis) Borders of Franklin, TN, Winifred S. (Jason Gloor) Foster of Honeoye Falls; his grandchildren, Perry E. Foster, Andrew W. (Laura) Foster, Charlotte M. Foster, Brooke T. Borders, Finley J. Gloor, Taber M. Gloor.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday morning, January 16, 2010. There will be a time to share at the close of the service.
