Age 84, of Hermitage Rd., Warsaw died January 30, 2012 at the Wyoming County Nursing Facility in Warsaw.
He was born April 21, 1927 in Caneadea, NY, son of the late Francis J. and Kathleen Crowley Powers, Sr. He was a veteran of the US Army having served from 1945-57. Francis worked for 30 years at the Chevrolet Auto Plant in Buffalo prior to his retirement in 1988. He was a member of the United Auto Workers Local #424, the Six Star American Legion Post #637 in Strykersville and the Veterans of Foreign Wars #6239 in Alexander. He was an avid supporter of the New York Fraternal Order of Police and a charter member of the New York State Sheriff’s Association.
Surviving are his nephews, Mark (Donna) Powers of Java Center, Kenneth (Evelyn) Powers of Arcade; his nieces, Patricia (Daniel) Pingrey of Strykersville, Mary Beth (Richard) Hunt of Freedom; his sister-in-law, Lucile Powers of North Java; several great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews and cousins. He was the brother of the late Robert J. Powers.
There are no calling hours. Services are private. Francis will be laid to rest in the columbarium at Arlington National Cemetery. Arrangements are being completed by Robinson & Hackemer Funeral Home, Warsaw.
