F. Joanne Smith

July 5, 1943 - October 14, 2016

Age 73, of Batavia, formerly of Warsaw, passed away October 14, 2016 at Rochester General Hospital.

She was born July 5, 1943 in Warsaw, NY daughter of the late Ward and F. Arlene Godfrey Hewitt. Joanne was a graduate of Perry Central School Class of 1961. She was a stay at home mom for many years when she also enjoyed babysitting for local children. Joanne worked for several years at St. Michael’s Church and School and was employed as a data processor at Financial Institutions in Warsaw. She was an avid reader and volunteer for Literacy Volunteers of Wyoming County. She enjoyed playing bingo and was a collector of dolls and frog collectibles. Joanne was married for thirty four years to Charles B. Smith of Warsaw. She was known for being a loyal friend with a kind and generous spirit.

Surviving are her children, Wade (Cari) Smith of Warsaw, Tommy (Michele Perry) Smith of Shortsville, Lisa Smith Blackstock of Lenexa, KS, Laurie Smith Alexander of Gates; grandchildren, Julie (David) Blackstock Honn, Brad Blackstock, Brandon Smith, Morganne Smith; great grandchildren, Christopher, Jocelyn and Alexis Honn and Peyton Smith; her siblings, Bob (Barb) Hewitt of Angelica, Ward “Skip” (Margaret) Hewitt of Colorado, Theresa Brown of Colorado and Dawn Smith of Colorado; several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Leon “Stub” (Claire) Hewitt of Arizona.

Friends may call Thursday, October 20 from 2 – 4 & 6 – 7:30 PM at Robinson & Hackemer Funeral Home, 246 N. Main St., Warsaw where a prayer service and time of remembrance will be held immediately following visitation at 7:30. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, October 21 at 10 AM at St. Michael’s Church, Warsaw. Private Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Perry. Memorials may be made to Literacy Volunteers of Wyoming County, 29 N. Main St., Warsaw, NY 14569.
