Age 58, of North Main Street, Castile died unexpectedly on September 8, 2011 at the Wyoming County Community Hospital in Warsaw.
He was born December 8, 1952 in Wadsworth, OH, son of the late Gordon Briggs and Jean Sommers Briggs of Fredericksburg, OH. He received a bachelor’s degree in communications from Ohio University in Athens, Ohio and was a veteran of the US Army having served in Germany. Eric was employed as a golf club greenskeeper for many years at various courses including Oak Hill Country Club in Rochester and in recent years he was a very proud stay at home Dad. Eric loved downhill skiing and bicycling and was an avid Detroit Red Wings hockey fan. He enjoyed gardening and American history and was a master woodworker.
Surviving along with his mother, are his wife, Rosemary McEwen whom he married on September 20, 1986; his daughter, Lilia Abigail Briggs McEwen at home; his siblings, Greg (the late Pat Whittaker) Briggs of Aspers, PA, Ann (Robert) Buermann of South Hero, VT, Doug Briggs of Roachdale, IN, Jane (David) Braddock of Fredericksburg, OH; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, a great niece and great nephew and his best friend, Paul (Sasha) Sanford of Sommerville, NJ.
Friends may call Saturday, September 10 from 4 – 7 PM at Harmon-Watson Funeral Home, 35 N. Main St., Castile where a service will be held immediately following calling hours at 7 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Epilepsy Foundation, 8301 Professional Place, Landover, MD 20785.
