Age 90, of Warsaw, died May 13, 2012 at the Wyoming County Nursing Facility in Warsaw.
He was born June 25, 1921 in Johnsonburg, NY, son of the late Frank and Lizzy Redding Standish. In 1942, Bernard married Rose Courtox.
He was a veteran of World War II serving in the Pacific Theater. After the war, he was employed at the AMF Machine Factory in Buffalo until he was appointed to the Warsaw Police Department in 1957 as an officer and then became Chief of Police in the early 1960’s. While serving twelve years as a village police officer, Barney and Rose also owned and operated the Warsaw Speed Wash. In his spare time Barney enjoyed traveling around Wyoming County roads, bowling, cars and his favorite thing was dancing with Rose around the dance floor.
He was predeceased by his son, John Standish who died in 1984.
Surviving are his wife, Rose; a daughter, Anne (Francis) Perrault of Red Lake Falls, MN; his sons, Mike (Mary) Standish of Bat Cave, NC, Gene (Lori) Standish of Warsaw, Jim Standish of Warsaw along with his grandchildren, nieces and nephews; his sister, Doris Parmerter of Grand Island. He was the brother of the late Wesley Standish, Lois Janes and Ella Mae McKenzie.
Services will be private. The family will receive friends from 3 – 6 PM on Wednesday, May 16 at the home of Gene and Lori Standish, 60 W. Court St., Warsaw. Memorials may be made to the Wyoming County Nursing Facility Activities Fund, 400 N. Main St., Warsaw, NY 14569. Arrangements are being completed by Robinson & Hackemer Funeral Home, Warsaw.

This is Bernard Standish's granddaughter (1990); I was unaware of his death which hurts me deeply. I had the pleasure of meeting my grandfather twice that I can remember in life, he was always so kind to me. I wish I'd had the chance to say goodbye, but more that he is at peace.
