Barbara Scholes Mahaffey

January 26, 1941 - July 7, 2010

Barbara, loving mother, grandmother, and wife, passed away at home after a brief illness. She was 69. Barbara was predeceased by her parents, Arthur and Mary Scholes of Castile, NY; her son, Steven Behrendt; her second husband, Larry West; and seven brothers and sisters. Mrs. Mahaffey is survived by her husband, Jack (Oviedo, FL); her children, Rachel Behrendt (Edison, NJ), Thomas Behrendt (Tempe, AZ); Daniel Behrendt, daughter-in-law Debra and grandchildren Hannah and Matthew (Scottsdale, AZ) her siblings, Roger Scholes (Santa Cruz, CA) and Elaine Shonk (Castile, NY) and many other relatives and friends.

A lifelong learner, Barbara earned her Associates in Science degree from SUNY, and her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Business Administration from the University of Maryland. She was an avid bridge player, earning many Gold and Silver masters points in the pursuit of the grand master designation. Barbara loved to travel, play Jeopardy, and Scrabble. She never tired of seeing new places and learning new things.

Friends may call Saturday 10 AM – Noon at the Harmon-Watson Funeral Home, 35 N. Main St., Castile where Barbara’s funeral service will be held at 2 PM. Burial will be in East Koy Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Barbara has requested that donations be made to the Lung Cancer Alliance (http://www.lungcanceralliance.org). Online condolences at http://www.harmon-watson.com.
