Barbara B. Conger

August 20, 1924 - July 23, 2017

Age 92, of Warsaw, passed away July 23, 2017 at the Wyoming County Nursing Facility in Warsaw.

She was born August 20, 1924 in Warsaw, daughter of the late John and Helen Westlake Birkland. She was a graduate of Warsaw High School Class of 1940 and Cornell University Class of 1945. Barbara worked for many years as a dietician at the Wyoming County Community Hospital. She also spent many years as an agent for 4-H through the Cornell Cooperative Extension. In later years, Barbara also worked for the Wyoming County Office for the Aging.

She was a lifelong member of the United Church of Warsaw where she was active for many years in assisting with various church sponsored dinners and events. Barbara was an over fifty year member and past matron of the Centennial Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was a member of the Warsaw Monday Club and volunteered for many years with the Wyoming County Community Hospital Auxiliary. She also loved entertaining friends and relatives at home.

Barbara was predeceased by her husband, Edward Conger who died in 1999; her daughter-in-law, Peggy Conger and son-in-law, Richard Zalat.

Surviving are her children, Thomas (Susan) Conger of Lakeland, FL, Jane (Ray) Eiler of Jeffersonville, IN, Lisa (Jay) Tangeman of Warsaw; grandchildren, Patricia Richmond, Matthew Zalat, Alison Zalat Dorman, Michael Zalat, Haley Tangeman, Hanna Tangeman, Nathan Tangeman, Emma Tangeman and Ellie Tangeman; six great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late John Birkland.

There are no calling hours. Barbara’s memorial service will be held Friday, July 28 at 11 AM at Robinson & Hackemer Funeral Home, 246 N. Main St., Warsaw. Private burial will be in the United Church of Warsaw Memorial Garden. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to HomeCare & Hospice, 450 N. Main St., Warsaw, NY 14569 or your local hospice organization or the United Church of Warsaw Scholarship Fund, PO Box 205, Warsaw, NY 14569 or the Warsaw Rescue Squad, PO Box 22, Warsaw, NY 14569.
